eSIM Compatibility & Activation Terms
Effective date: 10 September 2026
Before you buy
Your phone or other device must:
- support eSIM
- be unlocked for use with compatible mobile networks
- support the network technologies required at your destination
- permit installation of the eSIM
Check the exact device
eSIM capability can vary between devices with similar product names and between devices manufactured for different markets. Check your specific device before purchase.
Carrier-locked devices
An eSIM-compatible phone may still be restricted to a particular mobile carrier. suitcase.ie cannot remove carrier locks.
If you are unsure, check the device settings or contact the network provider from which you obtained the handset.
Installation
Follow the installation instructions provided with your order. Where a QR code is supplied:
- use the device on which you want the eSIM installed
- ensure you have a stable internet connection
- do not share the QR code
- do not repeatedly scan the code unnecessarily
- do not delete the eSIM once installed unless instructed
Single-use credentials
Some activation credentials can only be used once.
When your plan starts
Activation conditions vary between plans. Depending upon the eSIM, validity may begin:
- when the eSIM is installed
- when it first connects to a supported destination network
- at another time stated in the product description
Plan-specific rule
The activation rule displayed for the individual plan takes precedence.
Data roaming
Some eSIMs require Data Roaming to be enabled on the suitcase.ie eSIM profile. This does not necessarily mean that roaming should be enabled on your primary domestic SIM.
Follow the supplied instructions carefully to avoid unintended charges from your normal mobile operator. We are not responsible for charges imposed by another mobile operator where your device is configured to use that operator’s service.
Dual-SIM devices
Where your device allows multiple SIMs or eSIMs:
- select the suitcase.ie eSIM for mobile data where instructed
- check which SIM is configured as the default for calls and messages
- review settings that automatically switch mobile data between SIMs
Calls and SMS
The inclusion of voice calling, telephone numbers or SMS depends on the particular plan.
Do not assume an eSIM includes voice or SMS unless the product description specifically states that it does. Services marketed as data-only should be treated as data-only.
Emergency communications
Do not rely solely on a travel data eSIM for emergency communications. Emergency call behaviour varies by country, device and underlying network.
Hotspot and tethering
Hotspot or tethering availability depends on the particular plan, network and device. Where this is important to you, check the product information before purchase.
Network selection
Your eSIM may automatically select a supported network. In some destinations manual selection may improve connectivity and may be recommended by support.
Troubleshooting
If connectivity does not work:
- confirm that the correct eSIM is enabled
- confirm mobile data is assigned to it
- check whether Data Roaming is required
- restart the device
- check the APN or network-selection instructions supplied
- contact help@suitcase.ie if the issue continues
