What to check before travelling from Ireland to Dubai

A Dubai holiday, an airside connection, a self-transfer and a planned stopover are not interchangeable. A traveller remaining airside may only need airport Wi-Fi; someone collecting baggage or changing airports may need entry permission, time and independent connectivity. Confirm the booking and operating airline before choosing a checklist path.

Documents, insurance and medicines

Check entry requirements against each traveller’s citizenship and passport type, not the fact that the flight leaves Ireland. The Department’s current UAE page and the airline’s visa guidance are starting points, not automated clearance.

Ask the insurer whether the policy remains valid for the official advice level and every planned activity. If carrying prescription medicine, use the official UAE guidance linked by the Department; the checklist never records health information or declares a medicine acceptable.

Prepare the phone before departure

Decide whether an existing allowance, a verified tourist offer, Wi-Fi or a travel eSIM fits the actual trip. Read the free tourist SIM comparison and prepare a separate calling-home method. If a data-only plan is suitable, review current United Arab Emirates eSIM plans without assuming it includes a UAE number, calls or SMS.

Save the first hour offline

Store the airport code, terminal, accommodation, transfer booking and airline contact details where they remain available without a connection. Use the DXB/DWC arrival guide; late arrivals should check the last practical transport departure, not only a published network closing time.

Pack for the booked activities

Use the travel-tech checklist for operating-airline rules and the weather and packing worksheet for qualitative seasonal preparation. Check a current forecast near departure rather than treating climate history as a prediction.
