Rail passenger using a phone and headphones while travelling through Ireland

A per-phone data worksheet

How much data do you need for a trip to Ireland?

Compare Ireland eSIM data allowances

Your own phone already contains a better starting point than a supposed ‘typical tourist’ figure. Measure first, then add only the activities that will genuinely be different in Ireland.

A city break with hotel Wi-Fi, a fortnight visiting family and a self-drive route can produce very different data needs. Streaming quality matters, but so do separate phones, downloaded entertainment and the number of days the plan remains valid. The estimator keeps those decisions visible.

Start with a normal recent week

In your phone settings, separate mobile-data usage from Wi-Fi and divide a representative period into a daily figure. Then ask what changes in Ireland: more navigation, photo uploads or streaming—or less use because you will stay with family or download media first.

Estimate from your own usage or build a planning scenario

Use scenarios as questions, not averages

On a city break, reliable hotel Wi-Fi and downloaded entertainment may leave mobile data for maps and messages. Visiting family can reduce evening use but may involve several independent phones. A road trip may add navigation and uploads while moving away from dependable Wi-Fi. These are hypothetical patterns, not measured daily totals.

The estimator uses documented Netflix and Spotify settings only. It leaves other apps as an editable allowance instead of inventing precise Maps, WhatsApp or tourism-app consumption figures.

A sufficient allowance can still expire too early

Compare the per-phone result with both the data allowance and the plan validity. Family totals are useful for budgeting but do not become one shared plan. If no current single plan covers a phone’s duration and estimate, the result says so rather than undersizing.

When the allowance and validity fit, compare the current Ireland eSIM data allowances.
