Check your power bank and phone setup before an Emirates flight

Emirates permits one power bank rated under 100Wh in the cabin, with its capacity marking visible, but does not permit using or charging it onboard. It must not be in checked baggage or the overhead bin. Check the operating airline because a codeshare may apply different rules.

Carrying is not the same as using

Emirates’ rule has applied since 1 October 2025. The airline says a customer may carry one power bank rated under 100Wh, with its capacity rating visible. It may not be used to charge a device, charged from the aircraft supply, placed in checked baggage or stored in the overhead bin. The stated cabin storage is a seat pocket or bag under the seat in front.

“Under 100Wh” does not include exactly 100Wh. Check the current dangerous-goods policy and the operating airline on a codeshare.

Travel-tech checks without buying more

  • Fully charge the phone before leaving.
  • Pack the correct cable and a plug/adapter appropriate to the booked accommodation.
  • Confirm the power bank’s Wh marking; do not infer it from mAh without the rated voltage.
  • Save boarding passes, bookings and essential contacts offline.
  • Test that offline files open while the phone has no connection.
  • Do not depend on a seat socket always being available or working.

Your existing charger may be sufficient. This checklist does not certify any device as “airline approved”.
